Short track first came to Norway in 1989,
and the year after that the first national team was established. There are
only a couple of
short track clubs, but hopefully there will be more in the years to come. The facilities
for short track in Norway is good, considered the more than 20 indoor icerinks and the
numerous outdoor rinks. In 1995 Norway hosted the World Short Track Speed Skating
Championship, arranged in the Olympic arena "Fjellhallen" (The mountain cave) in
Gjøvik. The national team has participated in the olympics twice, in 1992 og 1994. Best
result is an olympic point, 6th place in the 5.000 meters relay in the
Lillehammer-olympics.
